Bavarian action plan for the storage and use of carbon dioxide (CCS/CCU) presented
Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger has presented a Bavarian action plan for the storage and use of carbon dioxide (CCS/CCU). The aim is to provide companies in Bavaria with planning security. The main industries affected by difficult or unavoidable CO2 emissions are the Bavarian lime, cement and mineral oil industries and waste management, which emit around 10 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Aiwanger: “The action plan is an important building block for decarbonization. It is a signal that we are serious about reducing CO2 emissions in industry in Bavaria, but also that we are not leaving companies to their own devices. Many companies in Bavaria are currently making a contribution to achieving climate targets by switching to renewable energies or using hydrogen. But in some sectors, CO2 emissions are process-related. These companies are now being helped with the measures in the action plan. We are thus strengthening our competitiveness and opening up future fields.”
The CCU/CCS action plan consists of a total of 20 individual measures that are intended to enable the broad industrial and economically viable application of technologies for the capture and subsequent use and storage of CO2, so-called CCU/CCS technologies, in the Free State of Bavaria. It was developed in close cooperation with stakeholders from industry and science as well as relevant associations.
The individual measures are to be implemented as far as possible during the term of the CCU/CCS action plan until the end of 2027. The package of measures will then be evaluated and, if necessary, further steps will be developed. In this way, future technological and political developments in CCU/CCS will also be flexibly taken into account.
